The answers below are about the product: what is in it, how access works, how you pay and what we do with your data. Questions about your own move we do not answer by email, because we would need your file for that. What we do know about it is in the platform and in the knowledge base.

What it is

What exactly is Nordic Settlers?

Nordic Settlers is a paid platform for arranging your own move to Norway. You enter who is coming with you and when you are going, and you get a timeline built on that: what has to happen when, at which office, with which papers in hand. Alongside it come bilingual forms, a checklist per office and a Norwegian–English glossary.

You buy it once, for your whole household. No consultant turns up. We do nothing on your behalf, we make no calls for you and we fill in no forms. You do it yourself, only no longer by guesswork. What it costs is on the pricing page.

Who is this meant for?

For Dutch families, self-employed people and small-business owners who are seriously working on a move to Norway. You have a date in mind, or at least a year. If you already live there and something on the Dutch side was left hanging (deregistering, tax, a policy quietly renewing itself), you can get somewhere with it too.

What you should not come to us for: someone to do the paperwork for you, advice on your own tax or legal situation, or a browse while you are still mostly daydreaming. For that last one the knowledge base is free and covers plenty.

Does this replace an accountant, a lawyer or an immigration adviser?

No. Nordic Settlers is information and tooling, not personal advice. We do not know your situation, and we give no tax, legal or immigration advice on an individual case. For an employment contract you do not trust, a company structure that touches two countries, or a residence question with an edge to it, you will still need a professional.

What it does do is get you to that professional with the right questions and the right papers. An adviser who does not first have to spend an hour explaining how the Norwegian system fits together is a cheaper adviser. What we do and do not promise is set out in the terms.

Access and household

What does ‘lifetime access’ mean?

You pay once and your access stays. No subscription, no expiry date, no yearly renewal. Updates are included: if a rule changes and we rewrite the text, you see the new version without paying anything extra. If your move slips by a year, your access simply slips along with it.

And the honest limit alongside that: it is the lifetime of the product, not yours. Should Nordic Settlers ever stop, we will say so well in advance, and you get an export of your own data and your timeline before anything disappears. That is in the terms as well.

What does ‘per household’ mean, and can my partner log in too?

One purchase covers the people moving together to one address. Both adults get their own login on their own e-mail address, so you have nothing to share and you are both looking at the same timeline. Children do not need an account; whatever is needed from them sits in the parents’ timeline.

What it does not cover is sharing outside your household. Your sister who is going next year, a colleague, someone from the same Facebook group: they need a purchase of their own. Not to be difficult, but because the whole timeline turns on your situation and not on theirs. See the pricing.

Why is there no password?

You log in with a link we send to your e-mail address. You fill in your address, you get a mail, you click, and you are in. So there is no password to invent, to forget, or to reuse somewhere else.

For a product like this one, that is safer. There is no list of passwords to steal if the list does not exist, and most break-ins start with a password that had already leaked elsewhere.

If the mail does not arrive, check your spam first, wait a minute, then ask for a new link. If it stays quiet, let us know through contact.

Buying and paying

Can I undo my purchase?

On an online purchase in the EU and the EEA you have fourteen days to change your mind. Digital content you receive straight away is an exception to that, and the exception only holds if you agree to it explicitly beforehand. So at checkout there is one box that you tick yourself: your access starts immediately, and with that you give up those fourteen days. Leave it unticked and we hold off opening your access until the period is over.

If something is genuinely wrong, charged twice, wrong version bought, you cannot get in, mail us. We will sort that out. The full text is in the terms.

The content

How often is the content updated?

Continuously, and every part carries the date we last checked it against the source. That date says more than a promise about frequency: it tells you exactly how fresh a section is. The change log shows what we adjusted and when.

Rules change. Rates shift, deadlines move, forms get a new number, and now and then an office changes its procedure without announcing it. If you run into something that no longer holds, report it from inside the platform or through contact. Reports from readers are the fastest way we find mistakes. That date sits above every article in the knowledge base too.

Is there an app for iOS and Android?

Not yet. Apps for iOS and Android are on the plan, but we are not naming a date, because we would probably miss it. As soon as they are here, access is included in what you already bought. You do not pay a second time.

Until then the platform simply works in your phone’s browser. That is what it was built for: most people read this on the sofa in the evening, not at a desk. You can put the site on your home screen as a shortcut, and then it opens full screen and behaves like an app from there on.

Us and your data

What data do you keep about me?

Only what your timeline needs: your e-mail address, the names of the adults in the household, the birth month and birth year of any children, your planned moving date, the kommune if you already know it, a short description of your situation (employed, own business or studying) and the expiry dates of documents you want reminding about.

And this is what we do not keep: no BSN, no D-nummer, no fødselsnummer, no passport or document numbers, no scans of anything at all. There is simply no field to put them in. Everything sits on servers inside the EEA. The details are in the privacy statement.

Who is behind Nordic Settlers?

Two Dutch parents who moved to Telemark with their family. We worked our own way through it, wrote down what we figured out along the road, and then spent a year helping other families in person. That worked, but it did not scale, and it became too expensive for exactly the people who needed it most. So it turned into a platform.

The invoices come from Crypted AS, a Norwegian company, and that is also the party you enter into the agreement with. The whole story, including where we live and what we deliberately do not do, is on about us.

How can I reach you?

By e-mail, at [email protected]. There is no phone number and no chat window: there are two of us, and e-mail is the only channel we can keep up with properly. The contact page says what to include right away, so you get your answer in one go.

What we answer: questions about the product, about your access, about an invoice, and reports that something in the content no longer holds. What we do not answer: ‘what should I do in my situation’. That is personal advice. We do not give it, and we could not do it well without knowing your whole file.

Is your question not here? Email us. We read it ourselves, and when a question comes up more than once we add it to this page.
